MBET - Complete!

So I just walked out of my final exam about 30 minutes ago. There ends another chapter in the life of 'me'. I had dinner with a few potential contacts in reference to jobs; and I received an email from Lisa (MBET office co-ordinator) regarding a job posting. I've got a few good leads, but all of them through people I know. Yep, it's always about who you know, I'm not sure I've heard of anyone at CBET that has successfully signed an employment contract for a job they found through Workopolis or Monster.

Final exams and finding a job?

It has been a bit tough over the last little while to look for a job. Many prospects, but they are just that. It doesn't help with this being 'exam week' for us, even though we only have 2.

Today we had the 609 (E-Business exam). I think it went well. I guess I'll know soon enough.

It seems like this last week has been one thing after another. Since we are basically finished with MBET, I really want to take a few days to relax. But then there is that need for making rent, and studying for these exams. Plus, if you have your own practicum, you still need to decide what you're going to do about that.

It's becoming very evident that you need to establish a strong network during the year through all of the MBET events. All of the Communitech events you go to, and the speakers that come in are crutial to helping you find that critical first job. Thankfully I managed to establish contact with a few of them before and that should come in handy now. But it does go to show you that you never know when you meet that really important contact. I went to Sauble Beach this weekend and the guy on the campsite next to me is an IT manager at RBC. My partner Shannon is in a wedding and we are going out with a guy from the wedding for dinner tomorrow. He just happens to be a Director at Workbrain. So keep your ears to the ground :D

Practicum Presentations

Today my group and I presented our practicum to Doug Sparkes. So this is it; it's finished. I have officially completed the last presentation I will have to do for MBET.

Seriously though, if any of you have any presentation or public speaking fears, this program is the cure.  After about two hundred presentations, it really does become second nature.

Anyway, its time to get back to my job hunting.  I just found out yesterday that I'm not getting that Program Manager job that paid $70K to start. I was down to the final 2, but unfortunately they chose someone with 'more experience'.

C'est la vie.

Ethan's Blog ... what's the difference?

Well, I believe that it would be useful to have more than one individual describle his or her successes after the MBET program. Ethan is definitly an 'A' student, and has lots of experience since he graduated from his undergrad and started working in the early nineties.

All in all, I believe that this blog will give you a different perspective from a student who entered MBET straight from his undergrad, as many of you probably will.

After MBET - The Real World

So this is my first report. MBET is all but finished, a week to go, 3 exams, 3 assignments and 3 presentations left. Its a pretty light week when all things are considered.

To begin, I'll explain the purpose of this blog. It is to give you an understanding of how the program helped to change me and what contributions it made to my ability to comprehend the working business world.

You may want to check out Ethan Henry's page http://mbet.blogspot.com to get a good idea of what the program was all about.  Anyway, this should be interesting, since I don't have any idea what to expect in the upcoming months.
